Family Reunion Travel Assistance (FRTA)- South West Wales - Family support services

What we do

The Family Reunion Travel Assistance scheme pays for and arranges travel to reunite refugee families. The scheme organises and pays for family members’ travel to the UK only.

Please note: The scheme cannot refund tickets that you buy privately and cannot give you cash to buy tickets. The British Red Cross is unable to cover the cost of exit visas.

The scheme has limited funds. Therefore, only a limited number of cases can be accepted. Having a valid visa will not automatically guarantee acceptance of your application Whilst we will make every effort to prioritise unaccompanied minor cases, we cannot guarantee that every minor will be accepted depending on available budget at time of application

PLEASE NOTE: People looking for help with Family Reunion visa applications will need to see a lawyer or qualified immigration adviser.
Once your family’s Family Reunion visas are secured, you can contact your local Red Cross office for an appointment to apply for travel assistance.

Who do we support

1. The service is for people who already have Family Reunion visas for their family to enter the UK; and
2.
a) Have 3 or more family members abroad;
or b) Are sponsoring an unaccompanied minor;
or c) Have applied for the visas through one of the pre-visa FRSP projects, or Families First in Birmingham;
or d) Have a family member with a medical need for whom it would be impossible to board a flight without extra assistance. The central FRTA team will require a doctor’s note to confirm this, and this may be further confirmed by an IOM doctor.
