National Youth Advocacy Service (NYAS) - Vale of Glamorgan - Family support services


What we do

NYAS provide confidential, professional independent advocacy services to children and young people who are known to the Vale of Glamorgan, who are:

- Looked after. Advocacy support can involve issues such as: Contact with family, placement planning, disabilities, transition, short breaks, support to attend LAC reviews, access to legal advice, conflicting views with a social worker, access to files, to make an appeal/complaint.
- Subject to child protection case conferences
- Care leavers
- Children and young people wishing to make a complaint about a service they are receiving from the local authority.

Who do we support

We provide an issue based advocacy service for children and young people between the ages 0 -18 years. We will also work with young people up to the age of 21 years when they are leaving care and in education.

Can anyone use this service?

It is important to obtain consent from the child or young person prior to making a referral. Children/young people can also self refer using the free phone number 0800 616101.
