LATCH - Welsh Children's Cancer Charity - Family support services

What we do

Having a child diagnosed with cancer or leukemia comes as a devastating blow.

When a child has been diagnosed with cancer or leukemia, the chemotherapy treatment can last from six months to three years, with follow-up treatment and check-ups meaning a child could be under medical supervision for over 5 years.

Caring for a child during treatment is hard on all the family. Finances are often a worry as parents will often have to take time off work to support their child. Family relationships can suffer too, as the emotional pressure takes its toll and everyday life is turned upside down.

LATCH provides a wide-range of support to families who are going through this difficult time when being treated on the Paediatric Oncology (Rainbow) Ward in the Children's Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

From providing an experienced team of Social Workers, financial grants for families, home from home accommodation and much more, LATCH is here to help.

Who do we support

LATCH supports children - and their families - who are receiving treatment for cancer on the Paediatric Oncology (Rainbow) Ward, at the Children’s Hospital for Wales.

LATCH supports any families in this situation regardless of their situation, wealth, status, religion, or any other factor. Cancer does not discriminate, so neither do we.

As a children’s charity, LATCH is only able to support children up until they are 18 years old (unless there is an exceptional circumstance based on an individual child’s needs or situation).

While our Head Office is based in Cardiff, on the University Hospital of Wales site, LATCH provides support to any child and their family who are receiving treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Wales.
