What we do

The programme delivers joint partnership work between Careers Wales and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

What does the programme Offer?
Youth Work Support:

• One to one youth work support: the level of work will depend on need. The young person will work towards a wide variety of accredited learning opportunities, minimum Entry 1 threshold.
• Group support consisting of 6-8 most vulnerable young people: Bespoke programme developed to meet the needs of the group. This may include personal finance, managing budget, confidence, self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

Careers Wales Support:

• KS3 Employer Engagement – visits, talks, activities, alumni
• KS4 tailored work placements – tasters, time-bound or up to 2 days a week long term or employer site visits.
• Enhanced careers support focusing on career management skills – planning/goal setting/ decision making etc. Could also include preparation for work placement.

Who do we support

The programme is for school based young people years 7-11 identified at high risk (RED) through the Youth Engagement & Progression Framework Early Identification Tool. Schools are required to complete this exercise twice annually (December and June).

It is a European Social Funded programme to reduce the number of young people at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education Employment of Training).

The Programme can be delivered to small groups of participants or on a one-to-one basis.

Referral is through schools - What do the schools need to do? • Schools need to complete the Early Identification exercise • Complete a I2A referral form for each young person • Complete an Action Plan for the panel meeting - this will help monitor and review progress of intervention • Sign the eligibility letter per young person and Unique Learner Number (UNL)
