Face to Face Therapies - Families First - Family support services

What we do

Play Therapy
Play is a natural form of communication for children. The toys in play therapy can be seen as a child's 'words' and their play as their 'language.' Rather than explaining what is troubling them, children use play to communicate at their own level and pace, without feeling interrogated or threatened.

Drama Therapy
This provides a safe space in which a child can safely express, contain and explore difficult thoughts and feelings using a wide range of art, role-play and story. The therapist will support the child's creative process and enable them to express themselves safely.

Face to Face Family Therapy
Offers an opportunity for families to talk about difficult thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour that can make living together and communicating hard. Therapists try to make everyone feel safe, appreciate each other’s needs, build on family strengths and work together to make useful changes in family relationships and their lives.

Who do we support

Families across Monmouthshire.

We like to meet with families for an initial appointment to discuss their hopes and concerns and together decide whether family therapy would be useful.

Families who have engaged with Face to Face Family Therapy have given us permission to share their experiences:
“It was a relaxed atmosphere which was important”
“It’s not there to catch you out, you can use it to blow off steam”
“I was worried about being judged when I first came; as a parent to think that you are doingthings wrong is really hard, but it wasn’t like that at all”
“We weren’t talking about it at home until we started family sessions, we argued about it, not talked; it helped us both get on the same page”
“You weren’t telling us what to do and how to do it, you listened to us, we could talk about anything”.
